Charlemagne Wine Club - 2004 Tastings

The Wines of Greece presented by Mary Pateras
Eclectic Wines is an importer of top quality Greek wine, from vineyards stretching from Macedonia in the north to the volcanic island of Santorini in the south. Their common link is that they are all made by producers committed to quality.
The grape names Assyrtiko, Robola, Aghiorghitiko and Xinomavro are less familiar than Chardonnay, Cabernet or Shiraz but Mary Pateras wants to change that. "I'm going to make a big noise about Greek wines", she says, and rightly so.
Anthony Rose writing in the Independent concluded that "the most exciting wines come from a handful of dynamos who are shaking Greece out of its torpor - Biblia Chora... Evharis, Hatzidakis”, while Tim Atkin also feels that "Evharis Estate.... is one of the best International style reds...." and "Hatzidakis Santorini .... the ultimate seafood white".
Christos Ioannou who is the Prime Mover for this tasting, has yet to finalise the line up of wines with Mary but expects to include wines from the above mentioned estates among the 3 white, 5 red and 2 dessert wines from the legendary island of Samos.
