Treasures of the Austro-Hungarian Empire presented by Paul Mapplebeck

We begin the year with a "Box of Delights" as Paul Mapplebeck returns to Charlemagne to reveal the "Treasures of the Austro-Hungarian Empire". This Empire collapsed after World War 1 but the vineyards and winemaking methods continued. Paul will be showing wines from Northeast Italy, Austria, Hungary and Slovenia to illustrate how fine these neglected areas can be - especially the expensive sweet wines of Burgenland and Tokay.
Among the wines on show from some top quality producers: 2004 Pinot Bianco, Franz Haas (Alto Adige); 2005 Pfaffenberg Grüner Veltliner; 2004 Feiler-Artinger Blaufrankisch; 1999 San Leonardo Vallagarina (a Super Trentino !); 2004 Beerenauslese from the king of dessert wines, Alois Kracher, and of course 2000 Tokaji 5 puttonyos.
