Nebbiolo presented by Dennis Van Duuren
Unusually, for what is considered to be a major grape varietal, plantings of Nebbiolo can rarely be found outside of their traditional home of North West Italy in the valleys of Piedmont and Lombardy.
The vineyards of Barolo and Barbaresco which produce some of the world’s greatest wines lie around the town of Alba in Piedmont but Nebbiolo is also found further north in Lombardy, near the Swiss border. The Valtellina region produces wines with names like Sassella, Grumello, Valgella and the devilishly sounding Inferno.
Dennis Van Duuren is an independent merchant and importer with producers in both areas. His final line-up is yet to be decided but should include some older vintages and a Sfursat – a local Valtellina speciality in the Amarone style where grapes are dried on straw mats to increase the concentration of aromas and flavours…… yummy !
