The Innocent Palate with Paul Mapplebeck

The taste of modern wine is determined by the grape varietals with which it is made, modified by the terroir of the country producing them.

Paul Mapplebeck has selected 9 typical but diverse wines and will tell us the countries and the varietals used before we taste. Without knowing the producers, we can taste without preconceptions and select our 3 most preferred wines of the evening. As a bit of fun these top wines will be garlanded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and the identity of the wines will be revealed.

Among the competing varietals will be Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz/Syrah, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Tempranillo, Gewurztraminer and Assyrtiko from the vineyards of Australia, France, Spain, Germany, Argentina, South Africa and Greece, but not necessarily in that order!

Paul will lead us through the evening in his own inimitable style to discover if, despite globalisation, we can detect the taste of individual countries and which ones we really like.
