Charlemagne Wine Club - 2004 Tastings

Monday 15th November 2004
Portugal presented by David Carter
With its reputation for the fortified Port wines of the Douro, Portugal is one of the most renowned wine producers in the world, but when it comes to table wines their profile is considerably lower. This is no reflection on the talent of their winemakers. It is more likely that the market is unfamiliar with such grape varieties as Tinta Amarela and Roupeiro and all the rest.
Good wine is being made in most regions and some of it is even finding its way into some wine merchants in this country where it can be found at all prices.
Among the wines on show will be a Redoma and Vertente from Port producer Dirk Niepoort Esporao from Australian David Baverstock and Chaminé from Danish Hans Kristian Jorgensen. Chryseia is a premium wine collaboration between Bruno Prats of Bordeaux and the Port house of Symington. Alvaro Castro’s Quinta da Saes will feature as will Vinha Barrio, a Baga from Luis Pato. Will there be room for Mateus Rosé ?
