New Zealand Wines presented by Chris Johnson (Jeroboams)

Chris Johnson writes:

My name is Chris Johnson and I will be presenting 9 wines from New Zealand. To tell you a little about myself, I have a background in biochemistry and I am a very keen cook. And obviously a lover of wine.

I entered into the wine industry at the beginning of 2008, working for one of Laithwaites retail stores. During my time there my knowledge and passion for wine began to develop at an astounding rate. This is where I began my love of New Zealand wine. Whether it be a crisp, zingy, infamously gooseberry Sauvignon Blanc or an, earthy, beautifully velvety and smooth Pinot Noir I am a fan and willing...no, eager, to try it! While at Laithwaites I hosted several New Zealand based weekends where wines of the country were on taste and on special offer, I even cooked some pavlova, which (don't tell the Aussies) according to New Zealanders, originates from NZ. These events were very popular and everyone learnt an immense amount and had a great time (and ate all the pavlova).

I have now moved to a new wine merchants, Jeroboams, and am currently working in the Mayfair branch at 20 Davies St. As a company we are famous for our Burgundy and Bordeaux range. This isn’t to say that our range from other countries is nothing less than outstanding. As well as enjoying NZ wines I am very partial to Burgundy wines. Loire whites and Italian wines are beginning to feature more and more in my collection.
